Are Cowboys Tough Enough to Wear Pink?
The concept of cowboys wearing pink may sound odd, but that is what makes Tough Enough to Wear Pink so special. Pink symbolizes courage, strength and determination when the western industry comes together in the fight against breast cancer. If the most rugged and courageous of American icons, the American cowboy, can wear pink to show support and respect, ask yourself: Are You Tough Enough To Wear Pink?
Tyson Durfey, PRCA Calf roper, has been wearing a pink shirt at every performance on the circuit for over 12 years because of his stepmother, Mary-Beth. She had two grapefruit-sized tumors, and had a hysterectomy.
"(The tumors) were benign, thankfully," he said. "But I wanted to do something to lift her spirits, so I told her I was going to wear a pink shirt every round of the finals for her."This meant so much to her that he continues to wear a pink shirt at every rodeo to support the cause and gives 10% of his earrings to Susan G. The PRCA “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” (TETWP) campaign, is an initiative to raise awareness and money for breast cancer patients in local communities. Many PRCA rodeos across the country have taken up the TETWP campaign with outstanding success. During a Sunday rodeo performances you will see most of the Cowboys and Cowgirls sporting a pink western shirt to give honor and their support towards Breast cancer awareness.
The Rodeo world embraces this cause and has raised lots of money each year to donate locally and worldwide. I’m so proud of our industry for the work they have done and the lives they have changed.
We have all been affected by cancer and probably specifically breast cancer, because it is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women (lung cancer being the first). This is why Rockin’ Rodeo Mom is offering RODEO MOM pink caps this month! These caps will give our customers the opportunity to honor someone that they love (while looking amazing) and the sales of these caps will be put towards a donation to the Me One Foundation. This is a local foundation that raises money to provide a free weekend camp for families in which one adult family member has cancer. The camp is designed to provide healing and comfort to these families. They are doing such wonderful work and we are very proud to be a part of it. So I just have one question for you-
“Are YOU tough Enough to Wear Pink”?
