Every Horse Deserves to be Loved by a Little Girl
It always amazes me to see the impact that a horse can have on a young rider…good or bad. When you are blessed with a good one you should be so thankful that they came into your life. My family has had one and here is his story:
We bought Boo as a 5 year old from a neighbor that couldn’t keep him anymore. He was pretty and I thought he might be a good fit for my young family. I started him on the barrel pattern and ran him a few times, but he just didn’t seem to have the talent that I needed. He did become a fantastic step up horse for my niece though, allowing her to go as fast or as slow as she wanted on the pattern. You couldn’t ask for a better horse to give a young rider confidence.
My boys roped the dummy on him and rode him around a little until he was about 10. He was s trustworthy, that when we needed a rope horse for my boys we sent him to a trainer to help us. He was solid in the roping pen after just 60 days. It was pretty amazing that we could rope calves and head and heel steers on him. Boo carried both my sons through Junior and High School rodeos. My oldest son even went on to win a lot on him as a head horse. He gave my boys everything they needed.
When my kids all graduated from High School he sat in the pasture for a year. He watch the other horses leave for events and he seemed depressed. So, when I met a young girl that wanted to learn to ride with her older sister and I agreed to let her try him. It ended up being a perfect fit and warms my heart to see the love this little girl has for Boo. She is competing on him in junior rodeos and he looks happy to have another kid to watch over. If she gets the chance to choose her awards at a rodeo she chooses one that she thinks “he” will like because she says that he deserves it. He is enjoying the slower pace in his older years and is finally getting his chance to be loved by a little girl!
