Word of the Year

Year after year, being healthier is consistently the most popular New Year’s resolution across the globe, whether that’s eating healthier, exercising more, or losing weight. Saving money is the next most popular resolution.

According to a 2016 study, 41% of the Americans who made New Years resolutions, only 9% felt that they were successful in keeping them. 33% of participants who failed didn’t keep track of their progress. 23% forgot about their resolutions. About one in 10 people who failed said they made too many resolutions.

Sadly for many years my resolutions mirrored these poor statistics, but I don’t think the difficulty in keeping resolutions should detour us from having them! I think that a new year is a time for a reset and brings us a new opportunity for a fresh start. We all need a refresh in life, heck even a computer needs one of those from time to time.

My way of keeping my New Year’s resolution is to choose a word of the year. I choose a word that I can try to live by in all aspects of my life-spiritual, physical, and emotional.  I originally considered the word brave this year because I want to be just that, Brave! I don’t want to hesitate to go for it in life because let’s face it, time is a thief. At 55 years of age I’m in the 3rd quarter of life and the time to be brave is now! I know that I can easily talk myself out of something because I’m afraid of the risk of failing. I instead want to strive to make bigger and bolder decisions…and that’s how I arrived at my word, Bold! Being Bold is so much more than just being brave and by definition means showing an ability to take risks; confident and courageous.

When I am invited to take a trip (even if it’s a long flight), I will say yes.
When there is a rodeo that challenges my confidence, I will say yes.
Even when I’m worried about failing, I will say yes.

Choose your word wisely and I hope it gives you passion and purpose for life. What will your word be this year? What will you say yes to? I invite you to think about it and choose one that stretches you farther than you have ever been before. We only have one life to live and I hope that you can try to live it BOLDLY!
